radar

Our Story

radar

Not long after its founding in 1967-1968, Atlanta band “radar” gained a loyal following and increasing renown for its powerful interpretations of rock, blues and British Invasion hits of the day. The chemistry and instrumental and vocal prowess among the band’s original members - Tony Garstin, Al Carmichael, Doug Booth, Jim Cobb and Bill Grove – were hard to match. But like most bands of the era, that lineup - and eventually the band itself - ran their course as the Sixties ran out and the Seventies wore on. But their fans never forgot.

As the years went by, Carmichael, Cobb and Garstin all remained musically active, Grove played off and on, but lead vocalist and front-man Doug Booth stayed away from performing entirely. Memories were all that remained of the band until tantalizing rumors began to spread in 2014 that a reunion was in the works. Then, in September of 2014, fans got the surprise they’d never dreamed of when “radar’s” original lineup played a sold-out show at Steve’s Live Music in Sandy Springs.

While some might have expected the band to be embarrassingly rusty after a long layoff both the band and their audience were stunned to find the opposite to be true. “radar” gelled immediately and found their musical groove and their personal chemistry not only to be enduring but in some respects even better with age. To the delight of the rest of the band, Booth’s vocal chops returned intact, and he commanded the vocal mike like he’d never left. In addition, the band greatly benefited from the decades of collective experience that the members brought back to the stage with them. “radar” may have been a bit green in the Sixties, but they returned as seasoned veterans, and the difference was palpable.

The crowd response at the first reunion show was so overwhelming that “radar” decided to keep the ball rolling, returning to sell out shows since April 2015.

A “radar” concert is an exhilarating nostalgia trip back to the mid-late sixties covering a kaleidoscope of the then-groundbreaking music that flooded the radio airwaves and the record stores at the time: songs by the Stones, Beatles, Animals, Cream, Youngbloods, Grateful Dead, Moby Grape, the Hollies, the Yardbirds, Jimi Hendrix and more. Come prepared to sing along, to blow the dust off your memory cells, to time-travel, and to rock your socks off.
